Proverbs 18:16 – ‘A gift opens the way for the giver and ushers him into the presence of the great.’

Do you consider what giving does for you as well as the person receiving? God’s word indicates that it is better to give than to receive. Looking at this verse, His word indicates that through giving, doors are opened for the giver!

God's Word says a Gift Opens the way for the Giver

God’s Word says a Gift Opens the way for the Giver

Have you ever been in a position where you’ve had wealth and others have wanted it? Consequently, they want to be around you, or they want to ask you for a loan. Have you experienced this?

In a positive way, it seems that if you give, then you will find yourself in the presence of a great person or people. Perhaps this refers to nobles or a famous person. Or maybe the great person is one who is important or wonderful. Whatever definition of the word great, God’s word is clear – if we give, then we will find ourselves in the presence of this person or people.

Perhaps we could even interpret these words to mean that if we choose to give on this earth, then we will find ourselves in the presence of God! And why not? God wants us to love whilst on this earth. It would only make sense that we give to those less fortunate; that we give in every situation that we can. Then perhaps when we are in eternity, we’ll be told by a great God, ‘Well done, good and faithful servant.’

A Gift Opens the Way

Remember that a gift opens the way – for you and for the person receiving. Your generosity could open a door to them feeling loved and learning about God’s love.

Financial tip – set yourself a financial goal and list some ways you can actively work towards this (develop a brand, website, products, service, etc). Share this goal with one or two trusted friends and be accountable – work toward it on a regular basis.
