Proverbs 24:27 – Finish your outdoor work and get your fields ready; after that, build your house.

Do you struggle to prioritise? I often do! I’ll make a list for the day and at times, get so caught up in what I want to do, that I don’t focus on what needs to be done! And yet funnily enough, if I do the necessary things first, there is often plenty of time to do what I want! The above verse I believe focuses on the importance of prioritising. Do what you need to, then after that, build your house.

Why is it more important to finish the outdoor work and get the fields ready? Surely it’s more important to have a place to live! Ask yourself this: what good is a house if you are not able to eat?

The above verse instructs us to do what is necessary to live. We need to do the outdoor work – to prepare the soil, to plant the seeds. If we don’t do this, then we will never receive a harvest! There are some things that you need to do – seeds that you need to sow – and then you can continue with the other things you want to do, whilst the seeds are growing!

After that, Build Your House

I believe wealth works this way too. If we first give to God and set aside some money for saving, then we’re able to utilise the rest of the money as we see fit. We know we’ve met important commitments – giving back to God and investing for our future. After this, it’s up to you to determine how the money should be spent.

The beauty is that if we first give to God and save, then two things happen. We’re putting into God’s kingdom so that the first of our finances can be used to bless and reach others for Christ. Secondly, we’ve put money aside that will work for us and as we continue to add to it, it’ll only grow.

Make the effort to prioritise with your finances. God first, saving for your future second. Then live on the rest. If you do this, then you will get to benefit from the finances over the longer term and enjoy living here and now.

Financial tip – learn to give! God will only give it to you, if He can get it through you!
