Habakkuk 1:16 – ‘Therefore he sacrifices to his net and burns incense to his dragnet, for by his net he lives in luxury and enjoys the choicest food.’
It can be so easy for us to move our focus to idolising that which we feel is making our life so wonderful. Surely it is the money that we have acquired that is a great thing! Or the item that has led to us earning it. The above verse references someone who idolises their net, for it is by his net that he is able to earn income.
Never forget that the ability to earn money is one that comes from God. It is God who deserves our highest praise and our first love. Furthermore, it is God who can direct us about how to best invest, save and spend that money.
Remember that although we can be blessed with abundance, this can just as quickly be taken away. Live life with the knowledge that God has provided you with the chance to be wealthy. However, know that circumstances in life can also take this away.
Live life thankfully. Be generous as often as you can. Always acknowledge the God who allowed you to have riches in the first place – not the skill or item that resulted in earning money. It is not by his net that a person lives in luxury; it is by the God of heaven and earth.
Financial tip – setting up an offset account for your mortgage means that any money you have left over for the week or that is put aside to pay upcoming bills can be sitting against your mortgage debt and keeping your interest down. It’ll save you thousands in the long run.
