Deuteronomy 15: 10 – ‘Give generously to him and do so without a grudging heart; then because of this the Lord your God will bless you in all your work and in everything you put your hand to.’
Read through verses 7 – 11. Perhaps you may find it overwhelming; the idea of there always being poor people. There will always be people in need. In fact, perhaps at times you are one of these people.
This should as a wealthy Christian, provide you with a sense of purpose. If there are always people in need, then surely you can identify some of these and help them? If not, pray that God would open your eyes. He is only too willing to prompt you to give to those in need.
God’s word indicates that we should give generously. We shouldn’t feel obliged, but rather we should recognise it as our privilege to do so if we are in such a position!
We should also feel excited about these opportunities. Why? Because God promises to bless the generous giver! In what way? In all your work and in everything you put your hand to.
That promise excites me! I have already been blessed with so much from God, but if I use some of this blessing to provide for others in need, then God promises so much more! Would you like success in everything you put your hand to? I sure would! Well this can happen, if you give generously.
As a wealthy Christian, set yourself a goal of giving generously of yourself each day. Again, this can be in the form of kind words, a smile, finances, physical resources, food or even your time. Be excited about opportunities to give generously. Look forward to God’s blessings when you do this.
Financial tip – don’t shy away from second hand. Many things you need don’t have to be brand new. You can save a lot of money if you’re willing to purchase something previously loved by another: a fridge, car, lounge suite, etc.
