Psalm 16: 5 – 6 – ‘Lord, you have assigned me my portion and my cup; you have made my lot secure. The boundary lines have fallen for me in pleasant places; surely I have a delightful inheritance.’

David as a king, you may argue has a right to writing the above verses – he had so much! But his incredible wealth and status came from a heart that was truly humbled before God.

God wants to bless His children; that’s not to say that if we’re poor stewards of what He gives us, that we will just keep getting more to waste or spend on unnecessary things. It is important to realise that God gives to us our needs – and even our wants – and from this, we are to be wise stewards of His blessings.

Our most delightful inheritance that we can pass on is our saving knowledge of Jesus Christ. However, we can also pass on to our children a healthy respect for the law, knowledge of how to give and how to save and many assets that we acquire over time. We can give them access to gaining education, food and love and many, many other good things.

With a heart for God, a good work ethic and determination to do the Lord’s will, we can find that our portion and cup are more than enough – indeed overflowing – with God’s blessings. What do you have that you’re thankful has come from God?
