Proverbs 21: 25 – 26 – ‘The sluggard’s craving will be the death of him, because his hands refuse to work. All day long he craves for more, but the righteous give without sparing.’

Have you ever been in a position where you’ve wanted something? It’s consumed your thoughts. How lovely it would be to have… (fill in the blank)! The daydream turns into a desperate want, an obsession. And what do you do about gaining this desire? You dream some more! This will get you nowhere. God’s word describes this as the sluggard’s craving.

The Sluggard’s Craving is of no Benefit to Anyone

The Sluggard’s Craving is of no Benefit to Anyone

It’s a desire we have but refuse to work toward getting! Put simply like this, it seems ridiculous. There is no point in desiring things we refuse to work for. Now it’s different if we have an incredible goal that we know will only come to pass with God’s intercession. I have one of these goals. However, that doesn’t stop me from doing all that I can within my power to get closer to achieving the goal. This includes educating myself, saving money and of course praying, communicating with God. It’s only in His perfect timing that dreams come to fruition. That doesn’t mean we can’t spend the in between time getting ready!

In fact, if we do nothing, I believe that can delay our dream coming to fruition, even though God really wants to give it to us! Whatever your desire, work towards it with all your heart, being sure to include God in the picture.

The Sluggard’s Craving

Whilst doing this, don’t forget to give as much of yourself as you can to those in need around you.  It’s what God desires of you. It’s making an impact for His kingdom. Plus, who knows what relationships are getting established in this time that may help your dream to come to fruition in the future? Don’t give in to the sluggards craving. Pray. Be productive and give without sparing.
