Psalm 127: 1 – 2 – ‘Unless the Lord builds the house, its builders labor in vain. Unless the Lord watches over the city, the watchmen stand guard in vain. In vain you rise early and stay up late, toiling for food to eat – for he grants sleep to those he loves.’

We can have many great ideas on this earth. We plan to be rich; we plan to set good foundations for our future, our parenting years and our retirement. It is our aim to be well educated, get good grades and land a well paying job. But at the end of the day, it is the Lord who directs our paths. If we plan without His guidance, then we cannot expect His help.

Unless the Lord Builds, we Build in Vain

Unless the Lord Builds, we Build in Vain

Be sure on your journey towards wealth that you are building up what the Lord would have you build. Are you investing in a business opportunity that He has encouraged you to? Or did the idea just seem too good to pass up? Are your funds sitting in a high interest earning account when God has prompted you to invest them in your local church?

Unless the Lord Builds

Anything that we choose to do on this earth without God will not work out as we hope. It may not be a waste of time – it may be quite fruitful or result in you learning a lot of valuable life lessons. But perhaps you could have been more fruitful or avoided some tough lessons if you had followed the prompting God placed on your heart. Remember to look for His guidance and to use His word to help direct you. Unless the Lord builds something with you, you will be working in vain for little reward.

Financial tip – in any mortgage, make your repayments fortnightly rather than monthly. There are 26 fortnights in a year and only 12 months, you will end up paying off equivalent to 13 months in a year if you pay fortnightly and save a lot more on interest.
