Proverbs 28:27 – ‘He who gives to the poor will lack nothing, but he who closes his eyes to them receives many curses.’
It can be easy for us to say that we will give more, just as soon as we receive more. This is how the world works. However, this is not how God works. In His word, He encourages us to give whenever we can and to give all that we can. He even makes a promise regarding those who give to the poor. This promise is that they will lack nothing.
That’s a pretty incredible statement! When we endeavour to reach out to the poor; if we give to them, then we will lack nothing! If however we choose to close our eyes to their need… When we decide it’s easier to plead ignorance, then God frowns upon this. He even says that people who close their eyes to others in need will receive many curses.
It doesn’t seem like a difficult choice to make. If we give to the poor, we won’t lack anything. If we refuse to acknowledge the poor, we will receive curses. In light of this, what will you choose to do?
Remember, there are so many ways that you can give to those in need. You can invite them over for a meal. You can offer them a smile or a kind word. And of course, you can give of your finances or out of your abundance. As you give, God will make sure you have enough for yourself. In fact, often he states that he will provide you with abundance because of your generous heart.
Financial tip – meal plan; organising what you will cook each week or month will help you to utilise what you have bought, rather than leave food unused in cupboards and buy other things.
