Hosea 12:8 – ‘Ephraim boasts, “I am very rich; I have become wealthy. With all my wealth they will not find in me any iniquity or sin.”’
We are warned against pride in the bible. And yet, as wealthy Christians we can forget who our money comes from – who it has always come from. God. It is God who provides us with skills and abilities to work and earn. God provides us with the knowledge and discipline to save and invest. It is God who blesses us and watches over us.
Yes, we need to be good stewards of what we’ve been given, but it is not in our own strength that we acquire wealth. It is through God’s blessing. Never get to a point where you say, ‘with all my wealth, I am safe’. Safe from poverty and from judgement. Safe from the evils of this world and therefore secure. This way of thinking is in itself a sin! So too is it a way for us to fall further, to distance ourselves more from God.
With all my Wealth
There is never a time when it is ok to boast about wealth. Instead, this should be a time where we learn to be more thankful for what God has blessed us with. And consequently, more aware of our responsibility to reach others for God, to help those in need.
With all your wealth, recognise the One who gave it to you; the One who can take it away just as quickly. Always with your finances, practice humility and seek God’s guidance on how you spend it, invest it and use it to bless others.
Wealth tip – get rid of unnecessary clutter: remove anything you haven’t made use of in 12 months and bless someone else who may be able to utilise it, by giving it away!
