Genesis 2:2-3 – ‘By the seventh day God had finished the work he had been doing; so on the seventh day he rested from all his work. And God blessed the seventh day and made it holy, because on it he rested from all the work of creating that he had done.’
Whether you think God needed to rest or not, right there in the first book of the bible he was setting an example for us to follow. We are human; we are not perfect. We get tired, we can be hurt and we can’t go on without taking a break. In his perfect knowledge, God set an example for us to follow of making one day in seven as a day to rest.
Whatever day this is for you, it is important to give your body, mind and spirit a chance to rest one day a week. Whether this is to spend time with family only, to relax and read, to play sports or do something else that you enjoy, it should also be a day focused on spending time with God and thanking him for all he’s done (though we should be doing this each day!).
If we are to find wealth in life, it is important to not think that this will occur through our own physical effort, seven days a week. Take time to recharge!
