Ephesians 4:28 – ‘He who has been stealing must steal no longer, but must work, doing something useful with his own hands, that he may have something to share with those in need.’
I wonder sometimes if those who want to be wealthy – Christian people and non Christian people – if they consider why. God provides us with abundance so that we have something to share. For those who are lacking, they are able to be blessed by those with so much more than they need!
When we steal or cheat – it is not just ourselves we are hurting. We are closing the door on God’s desire to bless us – and bless us abundantly. And because of this, we aren’t able to help those God wants us to help!
God’s Word is clear on not doing wrong – all of it is sin that separates us from God. It is also clear on humans being made to work. All of us. In many different ways and with different skills, we are able to pull our own weight on this earth. In Ephesians we are encouraged to do something useful with our hands – work. And why? So that we can earn our keep and also have something to share with those in need.
Something to Share
When you work as you’re to – as God provides opportunity – then you’re doing what He has asked of you. Through this, often you’re able to earn an income to support yourself, save for your future and family and also bless others. Recognise the ability to work as a blessing from God that can help you to acquire wealth – for the right reasons. Don’t desire wealth without being willing to work for it, or willing to bring something to share.
Financial tip – set yourself a financial goal and list some ways you can actively work towards this (develop a brand, website, products, service, etc). Share this goal with one or two trusted friends and be accountable – work toward it on a regular basis.
